The 7 ½ foot length makes them easy to cast. The medium-fast action assists in getting flies through the wind while still being forgiving enough for little muscles to actually feel the rod working. Four weight is perfect for tiny dry flies, dry-dropper combos, and even throwing small streamers if need be. I will not own a rod with less than four pieces and either should young anglers. It makes it so easy to pack in a backpack, strap to a bike, or throw in the roller duffle for airplane travel. This is a rod every young angler should own.
